FAQ

Keep asking, I can help you find the answers!

Hey Alana...

Q. What is a doula?

A. Birth doulas provide continuous emotional, physical and informational support to a woman in labor, birth and immediately postpartum. Once you are home with your new family member(s), postpartum doulas help you transition into life with a newborn. They offer support that is catered to your specific emotional and physical needs after giving birth. They can help in keeping the home running smoothly while you take the much need time to rest and bond with baby.

Q. I have a supportive Partner, should i hire a doula?

A. The short answer is YES!  Additionally, studies show that overall, people who received continuous support were more likely to have spontaneous vaginal births and less likely to have any pain medication, negative feelings about childbirth, vacuum or forceps-assisted births, and Cesareans. In addition, their labors were shorter and their babies were less likely to have low Apgar scores at birth. There is no evidence for negative consequences to continuous labor support. A doula can assist in making this special day in your family's history a positive experience for the whole family.

Q. does working with a birth doula mean that i have to have an un-medicated labor & birth?

A. Having a doula present during labor & birth means that you will have an added support person who is trained to support you and your partner continuously through the laboring and birthing process whatever that may look like to you. This is your birth, you are the author of this story.

Q. It's early in my pregnancy, Is it too early to start Interviewing Doulas?

A. The first consultation is FREE! Let's connect as soon as possible so you will have enough time to decide who you would like to work with. Generally, doulas schedule clients months in advance. It's best to start the process early on to ensure that the doula you want is available around your baby's estimated birth day.

Q. Can i afford doula support?

A. View doula support as an investment into your family's health and happiness. The day a woman gives birth is not just an ordinary day in the life of a woman. She will always remember the day she gives birth, it's important to give some forethought to who you want to invite to this beautiful day.
